2020-2021 Ensemble Placement Auditions

The ensemble placement process is one of the most important assignments of the year.  This will set yourself and our ensembles up for success next year! This process will be completely virtual.  All students are required to participate (Seniors will have an alternate assignment).   The ensemble placement auditions will take the place of your etude assignment each week.  Every Sunday there will be a “check in” recording due. This is where you pick a portion of your audition piece to record for feedback.

 

Final Audition Videos Due - FRIDAY, MAY 8th by Midnight Through Edsby  (Points will be subtracted for late videos)

 

Ensemble placement will be determined based on the Concert Ensemble Placement Rubric.  

 

Wind Ensemble: The Wind Ensemble studies traditional 20th century works for wind band as well as contemporary pieces by modern 21st century composers. The wind ensemble performs several concerts a year including district and state music performance assessments and is the highest level ensemble in the band program.

 

Symphonic Band: The Symphonic Band studies traditional 20th century works for wind band as well as contemporary pieces by modern 21st century composers.  Some after school rehearsals will be required before major performances. The Symphonic Band performs four concerts each year including district music performance assessment.

 

Jazz Ensemble: The jazz ensemble studies traditional 20th century works for jazz band as well as contemporary pieces by modern 21st century composers. The jazz ensemble performs several concerts a year including district and state music performance assessments.

Brass and Woodwind Audition Video Requirements:

 

1. Audition Etude - Posted below and on Edsby

2. Scales (All of the following) - Concert C, G, D, A, E, B, and F# (from memory)

3. Chromatic Scale - Your full comfortable range (Remember, you want to show off here if your can!)

4. **Only if Auditioning for Jazz Ensemble** Jazz Ensemble Audition Etudes

 

Percussion Requirements:

1. Snare Etude

2. All of the following rudiments - Long Roll (Buzz Roll), Single Paradiddle, Flam Tap, Flam Paradiddle, and Single drag tap

3. A short excerpt of anything that will impress me (marimba, piano, snare, etc) 

4. **Only if Auditioning for Jazz Ensemble** Jazz Ensemble Drum Set Requirements

 

**Audition Final Video Due By Friday, May 8th - Turn in through the Edsby Assignment called “Ensemble Placements”
